Khechari Mudra – Steps – Benefits

Kechari Mudra 

Kechari Mudra is considered the king among mudras. In Sanskrit, the word ‘Kha’ indicates Brahma or the Supreme Reality and ‘Chara’ means to move. Kechari Mudra helps the practitioner to move in the blissful infinite consciousness of Brahman. Kechari is an advanced practice that enables the yogi to reach higher states of consciousness.




Steps

  1. Sit in comfortable position.
  2. Roll up your tongue backwards, so that its tip can touch the uvula situated at the back of your mouth.
  3. Roll your tongue backwards so that it enters the nasal cavity placed above your soft palate.
  4. Breathe in and produce a snoring sound from the back of your throat and then exhale
  5. Next the tongue enters the nasal cavity. One should be able to hold it there for at least few minutes. One can breathe normally during this process. As you progress, the breathing rate will go down to 5 – 8 breaths per minute or even lower.
  6. Swallow any saliva which collects in your mouth while releasing the gesture.

  • Helps to attain Samadhi or the super-conscious state.
  • Fat on your abdomen will be reduced.
  • It Increases energy and vitality

The Khechari Mudra should be practiced early in the morning.
